Still alive

1 min read
I've been away from DA for a long time. Or actually I have been here regurarly but I just haven't post my work here. My photography just haven't been so artistic lately and because DA is more about art than photojournalism I've decided not to dump everything I shoot here.
But last week I tried something that is clearly more artistic and totally new for me. I made a short film, a very short one. I think it became pretty nice. Check it out.

And yet one thing. Here's a link to Ending Satellites
band website. It's their music on the film.

Damn

4 min read
I feel like i've ran out of my creativity. For weeks, or even for a few months I haven't got a single shot that meets my criteria for a well done picture. There is just nothing to shoot. Usually people are happy for spring, but not me, atleast not now. There is wet snow everywhere, and if you want to go shoot something which is just a short distance from road you'll have to make your way through that wet snow.
Last night I went to shoot an old railway engine which would be something very interesting shoot and paint with lights. But that damn snow wet my shoes and trousers so that small amount of joy of photography I managed to evoke faded away as my ass got wet due my low view angle with 10mm lense in a knee deep snow. All I managed to shoot on last night was just a few miserable poorly composited and light painted shots that are too crappy to show here in DA.
As the spring goes on, that damn wet snow will eventually be gone, but in the same time days are getting longer and there won't just be dark anymore. Now all of you readers don't understand my point, but here in the north summernights are bright and you dont need lamps to see, even in the middle of the night. It would be so nice to do light painting when it is warm and dry and you wouldn't have to worry for example getting your ass wet or freezing up your fingers while handling tripod.
Oh how I envy you Troy Paiva and other photographers who can enjoy of warm and dark nights and just paint on with your lights.

Here is Troy Paiva's Lost America website, which makes me envy.

I also envy all those cool places and all that cool stuff he gets to shoot.

It´s time to write another journal entry.

As you allready might expect I´m about to feature some photographers.
Two DA artist who I´m going to feature have inspired me and I´ve learned some great technigues by them.

First Elizabeth May
or as she is known here in DA auriethepixie auriethepixie.deviantart.com/
:thumb87915379:
Her photography was the final reason why I decided to start using photoshop. When I saw her intense portraiture pictures and found out how they were postprocessed I knew I had to get photoshop. Sadly I haven´t really got a chance for portraiture but same methods seems to work in other kind of photography as well.

There is no point for me to tell you more about her photography you should see it by yourself auriethepixie.deviantart.com/

Then another great photographer and inspirer, Jari Mäntylä
or wchild here in DA.
Lumberjack by wchild
If Elizbeth May got me wanting and getting photoshop, then Jari Mäntylä inspired me to use it more. I found Jari´s great photos when I was searchin pictures from DA by searchword Kemi. Kemi is a town in northern Finland which I live near to and which just happens to be where Jari lives.
He had been taking photos in same places as I, but his photos were so much better that I got envy :). I got inspired and studied his pictures. Then I revisited those places and got much better pictures compared my earlier ones.

Here is a just few of his pictures as a teasers.

You should go and see them yourself. wchild.deviantart.com/

Through a pretty funny coincidence I´ve found a awkward transition for featuring yet another photographer. Or to be more precise a novice photographer who seems to be very eager with his new hobby. I´m pretty convinced that he will be a pretty skillful photographer as long as he keeps practicing and advances in photography. Here is Teemu Homanen or teemuteho teemuteho.deviantart.com/ here in DA with his girlfriend Henurainen henurainen.deviantart.com/ (who is also eager photographer as long as I know) shot by wchild.

(And I bet they didn´t know anything about each others when this picture was taken.)

Yippee! Today my photos here in DA reached 1000 pageviews. It took a pretty long time, all together 4 years which 3 of them were little less active than the last one.
1000 pageviews isn´t actually a great number of visitors since some deviants get more than that just for a one picture. Nevertheless I´m proud for my first thousand pageviews and I´m looking forward to 2000. Let´s just hope that it won´t take another 4 years to achieve it.

Today´s theme on these great features is surprisingly thousand, 1000 or kilo. How convenient. :)

Today´s theme in my first ever Journal entry is to feature square pictures which in my opinion are just great.

Maybe I´ll learn to make some fancy skin on my journal and make it look better.
And maybe I´ll also learn to use this journal widget so that I can add a name of the featured artist under his/her picture. :)
